Astronomy Open Houses: Standby Seating

The Planetarium has 84 theater-style seats, so there are only 84 spaces on the reservations list. However, there are half a dozen portable chairs, and there are always some no-shows, so we can usually accommodate fifteen to twenty people with "standby seating".

Standby Seating
Reserved seating begins between 7 and 7:10 pm, and ends about 7:20 pm, at which time anyone who has checked in with my assistant will be admitted to the planetarium, as space permits, in the order they checked in. Individuals without reservations who check in around 7:10 pm have a greater chance of being seated, while those who check in later are less likely to be seated.

Telescope Viewing Is Not Limited to Those Attending the Planetarium Show
Although there is limited seating in the planetarium, rooftop telescope viewing is not subject to that limit. So even if you are unable to see the show, you are still welcome to attend telescope viewing afterwards (starting about 8:55 pm and ending about 9:45 pm). Open houses are always scheduled on a date when the Moon can be viewed (weather permitting), and various planets and other objects may be visible, depending upon the year and the season.
